ZetaDisplay signs framework agreement with Ruter to modernize digital signage across Oslo’s public transport network

Leading European digital signage specialist ZetaDisplay has signed an exclusive framework agreement with Ruter, the public transport authority for Oslo, to deliver a comprehensive digital signage upgrade across the region’s transit network.

Following a competitive tender process, ZetaDisplay won the contract to provide a full turnkey solution through an initial five-year plan to modernize real-time passenger information displays at 370 key locations throughout Oslo.

Ruter operates a complex, multimodal public transport network spanning buses, trams, trains and boats. The need for a modern, high-resolution digital signage solution was driven by aging technology that needed to be updated for 5G operating standards, and the desire to streamline real-time communication and increasing accessibility to critical travel updates and arrival times.

ZetaDisplay’s solution, spanning hardware, software and service, will replace outdated displays with 37” and 42” stretch screens from Teleste, ensuring a consistent and intuitive passenger experience across all transit stops. These weather-resistant, high-visibility displays are designed for long-term durability, providing a minimum 10-year lifespan to withstand Oslo’s demanding climate.

Ruter will transition to ZetaDisplay’s proprietary Engage Suite CMS—a powerful, flexible content management platform designed for seamless real-time scheduling and control across complex networks. The Engage Suite CMS will enable efficient content scheduling for a consistent user experience across all transport modes and enhanced accessibility with clearer, more visible real-time travel updates.

The Engage Suite CMS is also being used for live diagnostics and preventative maintenance, reducing downtime and optimizing performance through remote monitoring. This allows ZetaDisplay to troubleshoot and adjust displays without requiring onsite visits, minimizing travel and reducing the project’s environmental impact. Sustainability is at the heart of the project. ZetaDisplay’s ISO-accredited status and industry-leading sustainability strategies were key factors in its selection.

Ola Sæverås, Chief Business Officer at ZetaDisplay comments:

“Beyond delivering enhanced information to passengers, we have future-proofed this next-generation digital signage solution to become a platform for new revenue opportunities by enabling a comprehensive Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) advertising platform. The Engage Suite CMS platform will support programmatic advertising, allowing dynamic, data-driven ad placements for advertisers looking to reach Ruter’s high-footfall locations.

“We are excited to partner with Ruter to deliver a smarter, more connected public transport experience for Oslo. This project exemplifies how cutting-edge digital signage can elevate passenger communication, increase accessibility and create a future-proofed, sustainable public transport infrastructure.”
